JOINING AS A HELPER

Joining the Ampleforth Pilgrimage as a Helper is a rich and rewarding experience open to those over 18 who wish to serve in Lourdes. We are also joined by a group of students from Ampleforth College each year, organised by the school.

As a helper you spend your week working in a close knit group made up of a range of ages, with its own dedicated Group Chaplain, providing assistance to Assisted Pilgrims, serving meals in the Pilgrimage Dining Room, working on the Tea Bar, going to services, on procession and partaking fully in the daily life of the Pilgrimage.

Serving as a Helper with Ampleforth is a packed week, and we all work hard together in a spirit of joy and service. However, for those who may need to take things at a slower pace, there are limited places open to join the groups as a Light Worker, where your week could involve helping in smaller ways or be more focussed on prayer. We have many helpers joining us who have been coming to Lourdes for well over 25 years.

We actively encourage applications from young helpers aged between 18-21 who have left school. There is specific funding available to support young people who cannot afford the full cost of a Pilgrimage to Lourdes.

If you are interested in joining us as a Helper and have not come with the Ampleforth Pilgrimage before please contact the Pilgrimage Director, Diana Williams: dw.alh@ampleforthabbey.org.uk
