Ampleforth Lourdes Pilgrimage

2025 Highlights

Pilgrims of Hope

This year’s theme in Lourdes reflects Pope Francis’ theme for this special Jubilee, Pilgrims of Hope. It felt especially fitting amid the changes in the world – and in daily life – inviting us to carry hope more deliberately, together.

A Reflection from Fr Richard:

"Was our pilgrimage different in the Jubilee Year of Hope?  Not noticeably.  But it was vital for the Jubilee.  It made Hope come alive.  Hope is not the same as wishing; it is knowing that all will be well, but we don’t know when.  It is the certainty that the world will become a world of love, where everyone lives as if everyone else is more important than me.  We experienced that for a week and the joy that comes from a balance of public and private prayer, work and service for others , good food and drink and a little sleep.  And yes, it was different: it was a larger pilgrimage than last year and that also gives grounds for Hope."

A Reflection from a Pilgrim:

"Lourdes has an incredibly special, place in my heart. It’s where you see people being the hands and feet of Jesus on earth, offering acts of loving service to those who might need it.

This Lourdes was a special one, I felt more relaxed and into the rhythm of the trip since I had been there last year as well. One of my favourite moments in Lourdes this year was the adoration service, where we were able to touch the cloth of Jesus, just like the haemorrhaging woman did in the bible. It was such a beautiful, tender moment to witness the pilgrimage experience that joyful touch of Our Lord. It was an amazing experience to be a part of."
